SIBU: Education is indeed the key to success for anyone in order to survive the tough life regardless of who they are.

Bukit Assek assemblyman Chieng Jin Ek shared that he is also currently pursuing studies to obtain Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD) at University of Technology Sarawak.

“I want to continue studying because I want to upgrade myself. For your information, these days if you study until degree level, you might need to further your studies beyond as it will give you extra advantages,” he said.

He also added that he wanted to keep up with the times because the things he learned back in the days in the 1980s and 1990s might be etiquette of what he needs to know now.

He also shared that he will assist those IPTA and IPTS students who enrol in the university for the first year with some incentive as he believes it will ease their burden.

“I understand that you spend a lot of money on education. So it’s my duty and responsibility to assist those in my constituency and my people to ease their burden,” he added during the press conference for the official presentation of IPTA/IPTS education incentives to students at Bukit Assek Service Centre in Sibu yesterday.

He also reminded students that it is very important for them to be independent and self-sufficient and hoped that they work hard in their respective fields.

Chieng also explained that he would continue the incentive programme apart from assisting students, especially those from the B40 group, hoping thereby they can enrol in the local university in Sibu.

“My job is simple. I take care of my people, our students too as they are the future of Malaysia, Sarawak and most importantly, Sibu,” said Chieng.

A total of 230 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) 2021 students from four secondary schools, namely Methodist Sibu Secondary School, Sacred Heart Secondary School, Catholic High School and Bukit Assek Secondary School received an incentive worth 100 for every A score each in their last year’s SPM examinations.
