KUCHING: The General Operations Force (GOF) has smashed a beer-smuggling syndicate in their Ops Libas Risik yesterday morning with the arrest of two drivers and two lorry assistants aged between 22 and 33.

In a press conference yesterday, state GOF commanding officer SAC Datuk Khaw Kok Chin said the two lorries were trailed from Sibu to Serian until KM 90, Jalan Kuching-Sri Aman where the lorries were stopped and checked.

Inside the lorries were 2,300 cartons of beer with a value estimated at RM516,000.

Khaw added that the beer was intended to be sold at restaurants and retail shops.

The four were detained for further questioning. Khaw called on members of the public to provide information so that they can combat smuggling more effectively.
