SIBU: A total of 233 SPM 2023 top scorers in schools under the Bukit Assek constituency received education incentives this year.
According to Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng Jin Ek, he has set aside a total of RM85,900 for the incentives under his Minor Rural Project (MRP) grants.
The four schools include SMK Methodist, SMK Sacred Heart, SMK Bukit Assek, and Catholic High School.
“For three consecutive years since I became the elected representative, I have been giving out study incentives to students who excelled in their studies.”
He said this at the incentive presentation ceremony to 128 recipients of SMK Methodist at the school here on Friday (June 14).
He said that those who achieved 5As will receive RM100, and gradually the incentive amount will increase by RM50 for every additional A.
“I hope that for SPM 2024, there will be more top scorers as I don’t mind giving out a larger amount of study incentives as the incentive is a recognition of the hard work of the students and teachers.”
Meanwhile, school principal Phillip Ling said a total of 376 students from his school sat for the SPM 2023.
“Our school’s average grade (GPS) was 3.63 where 94.3 per cent of the candidates received their certificates.
“A total of 128 candidates (34 per cent) scored 5As and above. Forty-one candidates achieved all As in the subjects. Six of our students were invited to receive a special award in Kuching.”
