KUCHING: The Sarawak Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) apprehended a 37-year-old foreign woman at a budget hotel at Jalan Rock during a raid on Wednesday.
Kuching Deputy Police Chief Merbin Lisa said in a report the suspect was found in possession of a substantial quantity of narcotics, suspected to be methamphetamine.
“The seizure, totalling 2438.30 grams, carries an estimated street value of RM 78,016.00, underscoring the magnitude of the operation and the threat posed by illicit drug trade in the region.
“Further analysis revealed the presence of methamphetamine, amphetamine and ketamine in the suspect’s system, implicating her involvement in a multi-faceted drug distribution network,” he said
The suspect has been detained for a seven-day period, from May 31, 2024, to June 6, 2024, to facilitate ongoing investigations aimed at dismantling the supply chain and bringing perpetrators to justice.
Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 stipulates severe penalties, including the imposition of the death penalty or life imprisonment for such offences.
Police urge members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to drug trafficking to the authorities promptly.
