Through the “Hari-Hari Operasi” programme, the Immigration Department arrested 2,467 illegal immigrants until October this year while 2,190 illegal immigrants were arrested for the same period last year.
This was revealed by Minister of Modernisation of Agriculture, Nat i ve Land and Re g iona l Development , Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas yesterday while delivering his winding-up speech during the State Legislative Assembly sitting in Kuching.
“To tackle the issue of illegal immigrants, an immigration control post is being built in Ba’kelalan and is expected to be completed by May 30, 2019.
“Security agencies such as the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) will be manning this post while the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) will be operating in areas nearby,” he said.
Uggah added that two Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) Complexes would be implemented in Serikin and Karangas Gayau under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP). He said a CCTV system would be implemented at the Kuching International Airport to improve immigration control.
