25 more schools in Padawan District postpone classes

KUCHING: An additional two secondary schools and 23 primary schools in Padawan District will have their classes postponed until Aug 3.

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said this decision was based on advice from the Health Department, National Security Council and Ministry of Education.

Transition, Form 1 to Form 4 and Lower 6 classes, Primary 1 to Primary 6 classes in the said schools will be postponed until the set date.

“For pre-schools, Form 5 and Upper 6 classes, they resume as usual,” SDMC chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas when delivering the daily update on Covid-19 on Monday (July 20).

The primary schools included SJKC Chung Hua Batu 15, SK Kebangsaan Paya Mebi, SK Semenggok, SK Bengoh, SK Emperoh Jambu, SK George, SK Landeh, SK Patung, SK Puruh Karu, SK Siburan Batu, SK Sitang Petag, SK St Alban Duras, SK St Augustine, SK St Francis Xavier Seratau, SK St Gile, SK St Gregory, SK St James Quop, SK St Patrick, Sk St Paul, SK Taba Sait, SK St Peter, SK St Elizabeth and SJKC Beratok.

The secondary schools are SMK Siburan and SMK Penrissen.

On July 14, SDMC announced that 138 primary and secondary schools would have their classes postponed, with 87 in Kuching District, 48 in Padawan District and three in Samarahan District.

The decision was made following the recent upward trajectory in Covid-19 cases in Kuching.

Schools in other districts in green zones outside of Kuching, Padawan and Samarahan districts resumed classes on July 15.
