KUCHING: Some 2,500 people are expected to attend the Sarawak Day Ecumenical Prayer Service on Thursday night (July 20).

Organised by the Association of Churches in Sarawak (ACS) and hosted by the Seventh Day Adventist, the service, themed ‘Abound In Hope’, will be held at the Christian Ecumenical Worship Centre (CEWC), Jalan Stampin here starting at 7.30 pm.

ACS secretary general Ambrose Linang said the order of service will cover different themes of scripture readings and prayers.

“The recitation of the Holy Scriptures will be in English, Malay, Mandarin, Bidayuh Biatah and Iban,” he said, adding that prayers for the Sarawak 60 Years of Independence will be recited as well.

“The prayers will be for the Sarawak government, our Premier and the entire state ministers, including lawmakers and those in authority that they continue to work harmoniously in upholding our religious freedom, justice, liberty, political stability, unity and social inclusivity.

“We pray for leaders of different faiths, to have mutual understanding and respect among all races and faiths,” he said.

He was speaking at a press conference at the Christian Ecumenical Worship Centre (CEWC) today.

“It is time to pray for our beloved Sarawak and Malaysia for the spirit of goodwill among all races of different beliefs and cultures.

“Let us not allow racial polarisation and religious extremism to destroy the fabric of our society,” he added.

He said Christian members of state and federal governments and leaders of interfaith groups such as Buddhist, Hindu, Sikh and Bahai have been invited.
