KUCHING: The Ministry of International Trade, Industry and Investment is continuing to empower Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) through various initiatives.
Its Deputy Minister Dr. Malcolm Mussen Lamoh said among these efforts are the Sarawak Micro Credit Scheme (SKMS) and the Small and Medium Industry Loan Scheme (SPIKS).
“So far, a total of RM101.6 million has been channeled and benefited more than 2,500 SMEs. This includes 258 B40 entrepreneurs who enjoy interest-free loans with a total approval of RM1.9 million,” he said.
He was speaking at the Majlis Pemimpin Madani bersama Rakyat, here recently.
He added that the Graduates Towards Entrepreneurship (GERAK) and Technical & Vocational Entrepreneurs (USTEV) programmes are also helping graduates and school leavers with technical skills start up businesses in Sarawak.
“Graduates and school leavers with technical skills will be assisted through financial grants for them to start and expand businesses. To date, RM10.91 million has been distributed to 1,291 SMEs,” he said.
In the same ceremony, he also handed over minor rural project (MRP) grants totalling RM50,000 to the Village Security and Development Committee (JKKK), Gerempung Indu and Persatuan Tuai Rumah Phase I.
