KUCHING: A total of 26 individuals were arrested over a 24-hour period in the state for violating the movement control order (MCO).
According to State Commissioner of Police Datuk Aidi Ismail, all of them were detained for failing to provide a valid reason to be on the road or in public places.
“The number of individuals arrested for flouting the MCO throughout the state was 26 in the last 24 hours, which brings the total number of arrests to 452.
“Of the figure, 261 individuals detained have been charged in court under Section 186 of the Penal Code and Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures within the Infected Local Areas) Regulations 2020,” he said in a statement.
He added 233 of the accused had pleaded guilty while 19 had pleaded not guilty.
Aidi further said that 93 individuals had been sentenced to jail while the other 60 faced both jail time and fine.
Meanwhile, 56 individuals were fined for the offence.
