MARUDI: Investments in infrastructure will bring a host of benefits, from enhanced utilities to internet connectivity and economic growth.
Deputy Minister of Local Government and Housing Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil said the people here must therefore pay heed to the substantial efforts made to improve their living standards.
Altogether, he said 26 development projects have been approved for the Marudi constituency.
These projects, led by the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), aim to provide the constituency with essential infrastructure and services that had previously been lacking.
“With the Marudi Bridge, the roads, the utilities, and more, I think things will fall into place for this community,” Penguang said.
Speaking ahead of the opening ceremony of the Marudi Bridge, he highlighted the bridge’s pivotal role in enhancing the lives of Baram residents.
Describing it as a ‘anchor’ bridge for community in Marudi, he emphasised the connectivity and convenience it would bring to the local community.
“With the completion of this bridge, movement will be more convenient. No more waiting for ferries, and you can return at any hour,” said Penguang.
The Marudi Bridge, officially opened on Sunday (Nov 10).
In addition to the bridge, Penguang outlined several upcoming infrastructure projects for the region, including a road linking Miri, Marudi, Nanga Melinau, and Kuala Panai to Long Lama.
Another key project is a proposed 43-kilometre road from Simpang Lapok to Long Tisam, with a budget of RM130 million.
To further improve regional connectivity, plans are underway for a second bridge over the Tinjar River at Long Teran.
Instead of constructing two separate roads for Long Teran Kiri and Long Teran Kanan, Penguang explained that a single road and bridge would be more cost-effective.
Additional improvements include tar-sealing roads to connect communities in places such as Long Tabing, Rumah John Mato, Long Tuyut, and Ulu Teru.
Penguang also gave updates on other community assets, including the nearly completed Beluru Stadium and Beluru area office in Lapok.
Also attending the event were Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development Datuk Aidel Lariwoo, Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Labour, Immigration and Project Monitoring) Datuk Gerawat Gala, Baram Member of Parliament Datuk Anyi Ngau, and Telang Usan assemblyman Datuk Dennis Ngau.
