SIBU: 27 longhouse chiefs and seven Kapitans from the Sibu District including Bawang Assan area receive reappointment letter for their continuation of service.
At the presentation ceremony held at the Resident Office in Sibu recently, Sibu Resident office Charles Siaw also handed over certificate of appointment to five new Kapitans.
The five new Kapitans were the president of Sibu Hin Hua Poh Sen Association, So Teck Kee for the jurisdiction of Merdeka Road, Oya Road, Berjaya Road and Pearl Garden Sibu; Kong Chee Ping (Bengka Road, Sibu town); Yong Lok Kwong (Terap Road Sibu); Chiong Siong Tech (Maling Housing Sibu); and Tiong Chiong Kiing (Telok Bango, Sibu).
In line with the current technology era, Siaw urged the local community leaders to equip themselves with the latest knowledge and skills to provide more effective services to the people.
He said it was important while the need for them to have good network of cooperation with the Resident and District Office as well as government agencies at state and federal levels.
“This is to ensure governments programmes and policies could be implemented effectively,” he said when addressing at the presentation ceremony of certificates to longhouse chiefs, seven Kapitans from the Sibu district including Bawang Assan.
Siaw said as community leader, they should be open-minded, willing to share experience with colleagues, prepared to work in team spirit, be professional, be trustable and have integrity.
“I wish to stress that all community leaders including longhouse chiefs and Kapitans to always cooperate with Sibu Resident and District office in whatever programmes or activities run from time to time.
“If we invite you to attend any programme or ceremony, please cooperate by attending as a sign of support towards the government programmes.
“It is my high hope for all the community leaders to serve impartially and wisely in line with the aspiration/slogan of the state government, An Honour to Serve,” he stated.
To the newly appointed Kapitans, Siaw hoped they would continue the legacy of their predecessors for the communitys prosperity and to be agents of disseminating government information and policies.
For the reappointment of service for the community leaders, he said they had have discharged their duties well and assisted the Resident and District Office in dissemination of government policies and principles.
He hoped their noble effort would be perpetuated to serve the government and the people.
Also present were Sibu District Officer Awang Yusof, Temenggong Stanley Geramong and Pemanca James Semilan.
