KUCHING: A total of 271 applications have been received by the Land and Survey Department for land survey works in Bidayuh-majority areas throughout the state.
The department’s deputy director (management) Awang Zamhari Awang Mahmood said the application was submitted either through the Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA) documentation process or directly by the villagers.
He said the 271 applications involve an area of 140,237 hectares in total to be surveyed by the department once approved.
“A total of 141 applications involve perimeter survey under Section 6 of the Sarawak Land Code with an area of 135,120 hectares.
“Applications for land survey works for traditional villages consist 121 applications involving 2,057 hectares.
“And specifically for the Bidayuh community is the application for gazetting of the area referred to as ‘bung’ (hills and mountains) which involves nine applications for an area of 3,060 hectares,” he said when met by reporters at an event in Siburan today.
He disclosed that for perimeter survey works, 102 applications involving an area of 122,828 hectares has been approved and the survey work is currently ongoing.
“For traditional villages, out of 121 applications, 43 applications were approved.
“Of the 43 areas that have been approved, a total of 12,390 residential lots have been surveyed and out of that number, 9,568 have been issued with land titles under Section 18 of the Sarawak Land Code and the rest to come in the near future,” he added.
For ‘bung’, he said the department has gazetted two applications out of the nine in total.
“The seven remaining areas will be gazetted in a little while when we get the information we need for our gazetting purposes,” he explained.
