The Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Haji Johari Tun Openg Cup and Dr Haji Abdul Rahman Junaidi Cup on display after the team managers’ meeting at Institut Pendidikan Guru Kampus Batu Lintang (IPGKBL), Kuching on Saturday.

KUCHING: A total of 28 teams participated in the prestigious event of Sarawak Open Handball Championship for the Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Haji Johari Tun Openg Cup (men’s category) and Dr Haji Abdul Rahman Junaidi Cup (women category) 2017.

The championship will be held at the Gelanggang Khas Arena Sukan, Jalan Simpang Tiga, here from March 20 to 23.

Handball Association of Sarawak (SAHA) secretary general, Dr Abang Ismail Abang Haji Julhi said 20 teams will be competing in the men’s category. and eight teams in the women’s category.

“A totoal of 28 teams will compete in this year’s championship,” said Abang Ismail when met at the draw session and the team managers’ meeting at the Institut Pendidikan Guru Kampus Batu Lintang (IPGKBL), here. on Saturday.

The teams that will participate in the men’s category comprise IPGKBL, UITM, Politeknik, Kota Kinabalu, Project Handball Sabah, Seri Matang, X-Lion, Fam Union, X-Matang, STAR, Kuching High, Singapore (BP), Sri Lanka (BP), Fourtwenty, KVMK, Coach Team, Gaporian, Sandakan HC, Bintulu and TM HC.

Teams in the women’s category team are IPGKBL, UiTM, Politeknik, SENI, Mandak Borneo, Coach Team, Sandakan HC and TMHC.

The men’s teams will be divided into four groups with two groups for the women.

“The top two teams of each group of men’s category will qualify to the quarter-finals while the top two from each women’s group will qualify for the semi-finals,” added Dr Abang Ismail again.
