KUCHING: Twenty-eight students from the Faculty of Arts and Design from Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Sarawak took part in the 10th edition of the ‘ReQaseni Exhibition’ held from 6 to 12 April at the E Atrium of Vivacity Megamall here.
According to the university’s Rector, Professor Dato Dr Jamil Hamali, initiatives like this help strengthen the university’s position as a public university that fully supports and nurtures programmes in relation to art while at the same time, being attentive towards its development in the state.
“Activities like this bring a clear message to the community, especially in the university, and shows that artworks also play an important role in presenting information through visual communication.
“We can see digital art as one of the newest media platforms out there which can easily catch the attention of most people.
“Because of that, I am very optimistic that students will always venture and explore art and combine it with what we have now,” he said.
Jamil hoped the programme would inspire the younger generation to think more creatively and innovatively besides pursuing it as a career.
“At the same time, strong support is needed to ensure that students’ artworks are the best that they can be. This is why I urge other parties to collaborate with the university’s Faculty of Arts and Design so as not only to brighten the art industry in the state, but also to generate income.
“With this support, students will be exposed to new experiences in not only arts, but also entrepreneurship.
“Therefore, both sides will benefit and get to help each other as well,” said Jamil.
