SARATOK: A man was detained for committing mischief by setting fire to his house at Kampung Empelam here on Sunday (July 4).
The incident happened at 10.20am, and the fire had destroyed the 28-year-old suspect’s home and damaged three nearby houses. However, no casualties or injuries were reported.
District police chief DSP Mordani Tanin said residents of the area saw the man setting fire to his mattress which has resulted in his house being burned down.
“Investigation found that the man was living alone in the house.
“He acted very aggressively during questioning and did not admit to setting fire to his home,” Mordani said.
He added that urine test on the suspect found him positive for drugs.
The suspect will be remanded to assist in investigations under Section 436 of the Penal Code (mischief by fire or explosive substance with intent to destroy a house, etc).
