SIBU: Twenty-nine foreigners were arrested in a series of raids to detect undocumented migrants in the town last week.
The Sarawak Immigration Department said the raids codenamed ‘Ops Sapu’ and ‘Ops Mahir’, targeted construction sites, factories, and residences.
The team inspected 43 individuals for their documentation last Thursday (Feb 15).
Of the figure, 29 were arrested for committing offences under Section 15 (1)(c) and Section 6 (1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
The department has reaffirmed its commitment to track down undocumented migrants living in the state without valid passports and to ensure that employers and foreign workers adhere to the law.
In light of this, the public is encouraged to channel any information on the presence of illegals in their respective areas through established channels.
