KUCHING: A total of 29 arrests were made during a week-long operation against illegal gambling activities whereby 16 raids were made starting from 2 October. Sarawak Criminal Investigation Department (CID) chief, SAC Dato’ Dev Kumar said, of the 29 individuals arrested from the raids, 23 were males while the rest females.
They were aged between 16 and 64 years old. Three of them were foreigners. The raids were conducted by teams from CID (Head Quarters) and district CIDs with CID HQ conducting one raid in Padawan; Kuching and Limbang District CID conducting three raids each; Marudi with two raids and one raid each conducted by District CID of Padawan, Miri, Sibu, Bintulu, Serian, Sarikei and Kota Samarahan. Dev said the 14 raids were against illegal sale of lottery (4D) that resulted in the arrests of 17 individuals and seizure of cash amounting to RM7,329.
He added, mobile phones, portable printers, calculators, betting slips and stationeries were also seized at the counters. Two raids were conducted at make-shift tents that organised gambling in a public place in Limbang and Marudi.
The raid at Tedungan, Limbang resulted in the arrests of seven individuals for gambling ‘holo’ while the holo raid in a plantation at Bakong, Marudi resulted in five arrests. All those arrested are being investigated for offences under the Common Gaming House Act 1953.
