KANOWIT: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Sibu branch confiscated 2,900 litres of diesel and a lorry worth about RM25,000 on Thursday.

Its Sibu branch chief Kelyn Bolhassan @ Haliward in a statement said that the case would be investigated under Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961.

If convicted, an individual can be fined up to RM1 million or jailed not more than three years or both, while an errant company can face up to RM2 million in fine.

“The public should not purchase petrol or diesel beyond the tank capacity of their vehicles without special permits for scheduled controlled items.

“Petrol station operators are also reminded not to sell diesel and petrol to the public in excess of the allowable amount as provided under the Control of Supplies Act 1961,” he said.
