SIBU: Thirty police personnel will be deployed on April 5 to regulate the traffic flow near the cemeteries here in conjunction with Ching Ming, the Chinese Tomb Festival.
According to the president of the Sibu United Chinese Graveyard Association (SUCGA), Hu Yu Siong, vehicles will be directed to move in one direction on several roads leading to the cemeteries from midnight until noon on April 5.
Hu said the vehicles would be allowed to move only in one direction on Jalan Quarry,Jalan Bukit Aup, Jalan Teku Lama, Jalan Igan and Jalan Ding Lik Kong.
He told a press conference held at the premises of Sibu General Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry here on Monday afternoon that the public should adhere to the instructions of the police personnel there.
The public should not park their cars indiscriminately and should follow the police instructions.
Hu pointed out that the police had the right to summon those who disobeyed them.
Hu added that the Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) would provide a centralised garbage bin in each cemetery area.
“SMC will also provide mobilised toilets in each cemetery area for the convenience of the people.
“I urge the people not to simply dump their rubbish in the cemetery areas but to throw them into the centralised garbage bin provided.
“We should ensure the cleanliness of the cemetery areas,” he added. Hu thanked the Sibu police for their help in ensuring the smooth flow of traffic on April 5.
