KAPIT: About 30 members of the Kelab Gagung Sarawak (KGS) attended a gathering here that saw the presence of  advisor and a life member of Kelab Gagung Sarawak (KGS) Major General Datuk Stephen Mundaw.

During the gathering, Mundaw took the opportunity to urge KGS members to give focus to expand their horizon to promote the club not only locally but also outside the country through the social media such as facebook or website so that it is known to the outside world.

“Published whatever activities that you have organised and posted it in the social media as facebook, you tube or website and this will help to promote the club to the outside world. We should not look into the local market. We should look into the international market. At the same time we can also market our products such as the ‘gagung’, ‘lelanjang’ , ‘kabo’ , ‘tungkin’ , ‘marikubo’ and so on for the people to buy,” said Mundaw.

He said this at a gathering with KGS members held at the residence of its chairman, Jabang Juntan at Jalan Puan Sri Tiong recently. The gathering was held in conjunction with the visit by the Chief Minister of Sarawak, Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg to Kapit.

Mundaw who is also Commanding Officer of First Malaysian Infantry Division also suggested to KGS members to write their own history and could play its part to re-enact the important historical events such as Rentap , the great Peace Making ceremony held at Fort Sylvia Kapit on 16 November 1924 and many other events that involved Iban leaders, practices, ‘adat’ and customs.

“This will also help to open up business opportunities for KGS,” stressed Mundaw.

Also at the gathering were KGS chairman, Jabang Juntan , its secretary Martin Bilun, the Liaison Officer for Kapit, Favian Masing Lintang and Sammy Ngelambai.
