KUCHING: A total of 30 newlyweds were celebrated in a mass solemnisation ceremony held at Darul Hana Kuching Mosque.
The event, named ‘Akad Semarak Ummah 2023,’ was graced by Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri.
Expressing joy on behalf of the parents, she said welcoming new family members not only expands the family but strengthens the bonds akin to an unbreakable thread, a connection not easily severed.
“Aligned with the ‘Semarak Ummah’ programme’s essence, the mass solemnisation ceremony holds great significance, symbolising the sanctity of marriage through the solemnisation of vows to perpetuate the lineage of generations within the Muslim community.
“Guide your children with moral support and advice consistent with Islamic teachings, especially during the initial phase of marriage.
“They are stepping into a new chapter of life and greatly need the guidance and exemplary conduct of all parents to successfully navigate the journey of their respective marriages, God willing, until they reach heaven,” she said in her address on Saturday (Dec 9).
Nancy, who is also Santubong MP, cautioned against falling prey to the prevalent financial scams and advised against entering into unlicensed loan agreements.
She stressed the need for prudent financial planning, particularly as couples start their families.
“In life, let us seek ‘halal’ sustenance and live within our financial means,” she added.
In light of this, she expressed hope that the collective solemnisation would serve as a stepping stone for the Muslim community to progress and thrive in Sarawak.
She described the household institution’s strength as the nucleus of society, and that marital happiness is foundational to the success of a civilised community.
Also present was Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) mayor Hilmy Othman.
