BINTULU: Approximately 30 staff members from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) Bintulu Campus have been appointed as UPM Volunteers for the Borneo Zone.
The brief appointment ceremony was witnessed by the campus director, Prof Dr Shahrul Razid Sarbini; the head of Administration for UPM Bintulu Campus, Noor Hakim Akhmad; Bukryman Sabri from the UPM Vice-Chancellor’s Office, and the director of the Office of Occupational Safety and Health Management (PPKKP) at UPM, Assoc. Prof Dr Mohd Rafee Baharudin, along with UPM Registrar’s Office staff.
UPM Bintulu stated that the appointments are targeted in the first phase to undergo volunteerism courses organised by the Human Resource Services Division of the Registrar’s Office.
“Community service is synonymous with UPM staff and students actively participating in community and volunteer activities, aiming to instil a spirit of volunteerism among the university staff.
“This volunteer mission has a positive impact on the volunteers,” UPM Bintulu said in a statement.
Not only do they gain beneficial knowledge, but the mission also makes them more resilient, flexible, and wise in handling community-related issues.
It further emphasises that the mission is a prime example of how universities and local communities can collaborate to assist those in need.
UPM Bintulu hopes that the appointed staff will benefit from the volunteer programme, continue to instil the spirit of volunteerism in their lives, and serve selflessly for those in need, aligning with UPM’s motto of ‘Berilmu, Berbakti’ (Knowledgeable, Altruistic).
