TATAU: Under the Highly Immersive Programme (H.I.P.) introduced by the Ministry of Education, Parent-Teacher Association (PIBG) and English Panel of SMK Tatau jointly organised an outreach programme to Rumah Enggul, Selitut here on 20 July.

The programme involved 30 selected students of SMK Tatau and the headmaster and teachers of SK Tatau.

The programme was to promote and create a highly immersive English environment among students through their services and communication with the longhouse residents.

Two activities were carried out during the visit. One was the setting up of an information corner sponsored by the PIBG using mostly English materials while the other activity was the pasting of bilingual signs (English and Bahasa Melayu) at the four main areas of the longhouse namely the ‘ruai’, living room, kitchen and washroom area.

The signs are common conversational phrases as well as proverbs. At the closing ceremony, the students also sang a song “Do Re Mi”, where the longhouse residents also joined in.

The fourth activity is outreach which requires cooperation from the local community to enhance the students’ language proficiency.

The visit to Rumah Enggul was the highlight of SMK Tatau’s HIP Outreach Programme.
