SIBU: About 300 athletes are participating in the state level age-group Wushu, Lion and Dragon dance competition 2022 which commenced at Civic Centre here yesterday (Dec 3).

The two-day competition hosted by Sibu Martial Art (Quan Shu) Association is sanctioned by Sarawak Lion, Dragon dance Association and Persatuan Chenshi Taijiquan Negeri Sarawak.

According to the president of Sibu Martial Art (Quan Shu) Association Yung Dak Looh, the participants are from six divisions namely: Kuching, Mukah, Sarikei, Sibu, Bintulu and Miri.

Speaking to reporters after the opening ceremony of the competition, he said there would be 200 categories at stake.

He said the last competition held in Kuching two years ago was then halted due to COVID-19 pandemic.

Yung said the competition was aimed to revive the active participation among the young athletes in the sport concerned after a lapse of two years besides upgrading their standard of performance and skills.

Also present at the opening ceremony was the head coach of Sibu Martial Art (Quan Shu) Association Gilbert Wong.
