“Although there is a slight decrease in the number of fatalities, on average, 50 accidents occurred each day resulting in one fatality,” he said when delivering his winding up speech during the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting here yetserday. “With the Pan Borneo Highway is expected to be completed by 2021, the roadway will no longer be a single carriageway that it used to be. “Therefore, I urge members of the public to be extra careful when crossing the lanes road,” he said.
On traffic management, Masing said that Kuching North City Commission (DBKU), Kuching South Ci ty Counci l (MBKS) , Padawan Municipal Council (MPP), Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS), and state Public Works Department (JKR) will be conducted a pilot project known as ‘Integrated Intelligent Traffic Light System’.
“It is a traffic monitoring system connecting to computers where traffic light timing will be adjusted in accordance with real time and traffic volume. This engineering and technical system integration, however, would take time to deliver,” he said.
He added that over the next one year, the pilot route links will be implemented along Green Road, Jalan Tun Razak, Jalan Satok to Kuching S ent ra l , and Kot a Samarahan to Jalan Song. “In view of this, traffic junctions along these roads will be undergoing upgrades and calibration. “Once this system is properly tested and proven successful, gradual roll-out of similar systems will be carried out throughout the state,” he pointed out.
