3118 new cases but mostly mild

KUCHING: Another 3,118 positive Covid-19 cases were recorded on Thursday (sept 9), bringing the total number of positive cases in Sarawak to 144,030 thus far.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said 3,114 or 99.87 percent of the new cases were diagnosed as Category 1 (no symptoms) and Category 2 (mild symptoms).

Only four cases or 0.13 percent are Category 3, 4 and 5.

On the breakdown of cases, SDMC said 2,435 or 78.09 percent were Category 1 cases while the remaining 679 or 21.78 were Category 2 cases.

“Kuching once again tops the table with 984 new cases, followed by Sibu (430), Betong (200), Bau (143), Bintulu (140), Sri Aman (132), Samarahan (131), Serian (117), Miri (113(, Song (112), Julau (65) and Subis (54).

“Sarikei and Mukah each recorded 51 new cases, Kapit (43), Selangau (38), Lubok Antu (37), Asajaya (33), Tatau (30), Meradong (29), Limbang (2)7, Pakan (25) and Tebedu (24),” said SDMC.

Simunjan and Bukit Mabong each recorded 20 cases, Pusa (17), Telang Usan (13), Saratok and Kabong each recorded 11 cases, Beluru (eight), Kanowit (three), Lawas and Dalat each recorded two cases, while Matu and Marudi recorded only one case each.

Of the total number of cases, 2,109 people have close contacts with positive Covid-19 cases, 259 are from active clusters, 419 are symptomatic individuals screen tested at health facilities and 325 are from various screening tests done in health facilities.

The committee also said that there are five Import B cases, coming from Selangor (two), Sabah (one), Kuala Lumpur (one) and Johor (one).

“Apart from that, 2,334 people have recovered and discharged from respective hospitals and Covid-19 quarantine and low-risk treatment centres (PKRC).

“Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) and its PKRC discharged 986 people, University Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) PKRC (291), Sibu Hospital and its PKRC (236), Serian PKRC (232), Miri Hospital and its PKRC (107), Betong PKRC (101), Sri Aman Hospital and its PKRC (97), Kapit Hospital and its PKRC (77), Bintulu Hospital and its PKRC (77), Sarikei Hospital and its PKRC (59), Mukah PKRC (58), Limbang Hospital and its PKRC (12) while Lawas PKRC discharged one patient,” added SDMC.

This brings the number of recovered and discharged cases in Sarawk to 108,132 or 75.08 percent of the total number of cases.

There are still a total of 35,068 active cases remaining in the state.
