32 families evacuated due to flood

KUCHING: Another three families, making it a total of 32 involving 133 people in the Kuching division, had been evacuated to four relief centres as at noon yesterday.

State Disaster Management Committee secretariat said the number of flood victims evacuated had increased by 11 persons as compared with only 122 as at 8am yesterday.

The affected families were placed at the community hall in Kampung Paon in Lundu, Dewan Sinaran Kamput Lumut, Surau Ar Rahman in Kampung Sungai Batu and in SK Sebat in Sematan.

Of the relief centres, Kampung Paon Community Hall registered the highest number of evacuees at 42 persons involving 11 families, followed by 32 persons from seven families at SK Sebat, 32 persons from nine families in Dewan Sinaran Kampung Sungai Lumut and 27 involving five families at Surau Ar Rahman.

Opar assemblyman Datuk Ranum Mina and deputy state secretary (Rural Transformation) Datuk Jaul Samion visited the evacuation centre at Kampung Paon at about noon yesterday.

While at the centre, they also gave away food rations to the affected families.
