SIBU: A total of 33 base jumpers from Singapore, the United States, Australia and Malaysia will take part in the Sibu International Base Jump (SIBJ) 2022 at Wisma Sanyan here from September 14 to 17.

The iconic event, which entered its 12th edition this year, was halted two years ago due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Sibu Division Resident Wong Hee Sieng said, of the total number of base jumpers, 29 were from Malaysia, two from Australia and one each from the United States and Singapore.

He explained that the annual event in this edition is expected to be officiated by Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts Datuk Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah on September 16.

“The closing ceremony will take place the following day at Dataran Cafe, Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang Phase II and will be completed by myself on September 17,” he said here today (Sunday).

Wong, who is also the chairman of the SIBJ 2022 organising committee, said in addition to the event of jumping from the tallest building in Sarawak (Wisma Sanyan), the participants will also be taken on the Sibu River Cruiser to cruise Batang Rajang.
