KUCHING: Thirty-three individuals, including 13 women, were issued with a RM1,000 compound each for failing to practise social distancing in a bistro at Jalan Song here on Saturday.

Kuching district police chief ACP Awang Din Awang Gani said those being compounded also consist five employees of the bistro.

“During the inspection, police found that the employees and patrons of the premises failed to practise social distancing, in which patrons were seen sitting closely with each other.

“They ignored the new norm set under the standard operating procedures (SOPs) amid the recovery movement control order (RMCO).

“All of them were compounded according to Regulation 3 of the Regulations and Control of Infectious Diseases 2020,” he said in a statement.

Awang said the individuals were given 14 days to pay their fines at Kuching Division Health Office.

He stressed that police will not hesitate to take stern action against those who violate the SOP in order to break the infection chain of the Covid-19.
