35 dilapidated schools need urgent attention

SRI AMAN: Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation, and Talent Development, Datuk Francis Harden Hollis appealed to all parties from the federal and state Education Ministry to cooperate constructively in upgrading the dilapidated schools in Sarawak.

He said the planning for the repair projects of 35 dilapidated schools under the jurisdiction of Sri Aman and Lubok Antu District Education Offices has been made.

“The plans, however requires allocation from the federal and state governments so that the repair work can be carried out immediately,” he said during a special briefing on the development of dilapidated schools and status of HDC housing projects in Sri Aman recently.

The Sri Aman District Education Office has a total of 18 dilapidated schools that require immediate attention, while the Lubok Antu District Education Office has 17 dilapidated schools that need urgent upgrades.

Harden said that several repair and upgrading projects for schools in the Sri Aman division have already been planned and some of the developments had begun implementation.

On another development, Harden who is also the Sri Aman assemblyman said that a total of 126 residential units would be built in Taman Harmoni’s second phase after completion of the modification design plan.

“The project under the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) will accommodate the increasing demand for housing from residents surrounding Sri Aman division.

“The construction of the second phase will feature a new design, upgraded infrastructure to the drainage systems and attractive landscaping,” he added.

He also revealed that another new 17 hectares residential development area at Kampung Muhibbah, Sri aman would be implemented soon.
