KUCHING: More than 350 villagers from Kampung Serasot and its surrounding areas attended the Pre-Christmas celebration 2017 organised by the Bau Community De v e l o pme nt De p a r tme nt (Kemas). Serembu Assemblyman, Miro Simuh said the Christmas celebration should be celebrated together harmoniously with other races as an effort to cultivate the spirits of togetherness. “In Sarawak, Christmas celebration among various religions and belief is not a strange thing.
As we know our country practises the concept of religious freedom, and it is not impossible that there will be interfaith and adherence to different religions under one roof.
“On the basis of harmony and unity among all of us, there is no problem for us to welcome the celebrations together as it is also an opportunity for the multiracial Sarawakians to share their joy of the Christmas celebration,” said Miro in his speech read by Bau District Officer, Anielia Siam when officiating the Bau Level Pre-Christmas celebration 2017 at Kampung Serasot Hall in Bau here yesterday.
Miro also noted that the open house culture among Sarawakians would also indirectly help to cultivate the spirits of 1Malaysia.
He advised the villagers to take this opportunity to visit each other as a sign of respect and forgiveness. Among the activities held during the Pre-Christmas 2017 celebration were Praise and Worship performance by head of Kampung Serasot worship, Cikgu Daol, Christmas singing performed by Legion of Mary, CYM Junior, CYM Senior and PDK Serasot. Apart from that, there was also gifts presentation by Santa Clause to some of the children from Bau Kemas.
