KUCHING: The Communications Ministry has successfully developed 356 5G telecommunication towers in Sarawak.
Announcing this, its Deputy Minister Teo Nie Ching said the construction of the 5G towers could accelerate if there is cooperation and assistance from various agencies..
“There are still towers that are unfinished… we believe with the cooperation and help from the Sarawak government under the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari, contractors, and other agencies, we will be able to complete the unfinished towers as soon as possible,” she said.
She was speaking to the media after visiting the Point of Presence (PoP) Phase 2 project site at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Santubong here Monday (Dec 18).
She said the 5G coverage in Malaysia as of end November had reached 76.1 per cent.
As such, she said, the ministry’s goal is to reach 80 per cent of populated areas with 5G coverage by the end of this year.
“To reach 80 per cent of populated areas, we need about 7,509 5G towers to be constructed
“If this cannot be achieved by December this year, we target it to at least be completed by January next year,” she said.
