OYA: Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah presented education aid in the form of cash to 36 recipients here on Monday (Sept 28).
The recipients were those who had been accepted to further their studies at local institutions of higher learning or undergo training at training centres.
The Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister said a total of 85 individuals had benefitted from the Dalat State Constituency Education Aid Scheme, amounting to RM53,300, this year.
Since 2010, the scheme had assisted a total of 1,355 recipients, comprising 481 individuals taking certificate courses, diploma (576), degree (263) and others (35), she added.
“The total allocation from 2010 to 2020 is RM704,300.”
Fatimah, who is also Dalat assemblyman, said the scheme was set up in 2005 with a small amount derived from the minor rural project allocation when she was an assistant minister then.
She explained that the funds were limited then because assemblymen were not given much allocation.
Fatimah advised the recipients to focus on their studies and maintain self-discipline when they were away from their parents and home.
Mukah Division Temenggong Hendi Suhai, Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu Dalat deputy chairman Sait Seman, and Dalat and Mukah District Council councillor Aini Suhaili were also present.
