KUCHING: A total of 37 teams have confirmed their participation in the Sepak Takraw President Cup 2017 championship (Tan Sri Dato Sri Abang Khalid Tan Sri Datuk Amar Abang Marzuki) scheduled at Dewan Telekom, Jalan Sultan Tengah, here,from Nov 17 to 19 . The organising chairman, Zaidan Leen said the tournament offers cash prizes totalling RM5,000.
According to him, the champions will receive a cash prize of RM2,500 while the runners-up will receive a cash prize of RM1,500. “Unlike before, this time we will see the third and fourth place winners bring home a cash prize of RM700 and RM300 respectively,” he said.
Meanwhile, the balloting session and team managers’ briefing will be held today at 4pm at Dewan Telekom Malaysia, Jalan Sultan Tengah, here. So far, many teams have confirmed their participation, proving that the tournament have received an overwhelming response from sepak takraw players from around the city.
According to him, the competition will be played in a league format for group stage (subject to the total number of teams participating) before the knockout format in the next round.
