KUCHING: A night’s rest was abruptly interrupted for 39 Indonesians when immigration enforcement officers conducted surprise raids last Thursday.

The operations, codenamed ‘Ops Sapu’ and ‘Ops Kutip’, targetted rental homes and shared residences at construction sites around the city.

Acting on complaints and gathered intelligence, the Kuching Immigration Enforcement Unit examined a total of 47 individuals for their documentation at four locations.

Of the figure, 39 of the foreigners were taken into custody for overstaying, lacking valid travel documents and lacking valid permits to stay in Malaysia.

The detainees, comprising 33 men and six women, are being investigated under the Section 6(1)(c) and Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.

The public is encouraged to report any information regarding the presence of undocumented migrants in their areas through online channels or directly to the nearest Immigration Enforcement Office.
