KUCHING: The ground floor stalls at the 3rd Mile Market remain temporarily closed as part of ongoing improvement works, including the installation of an anti-slip epoxy flake coating on the floors, says Tan Kai.

The Padawan Municipal Council chairman added that this upgrade is designed to enhance safety for both shoppers and vendors by reducing the risk of slips and falls, particularly in wet areas of the market.

“The dark-coloured coating was specifically chosen for its durability, helping to hide any scratches or dirt that may accumulate over time due to heavy foot traffic. This ensures the market retains a clean and polished appearance despite regular wear and tear.

“The anti-slip coating is a key component of our improvement efforts, and it will create a safer environment for all visitors and hawkers.”

In addition to the flooring upgrade, he said, the 3rd Mile Market is undergoing several other enhancements. These include the installation of a rainwater harvesting system, new staircase awnings, replacement of polycarbonate roofing, ceiling and parapet wall painting on the first floor, and waterproofing of the roof slabs.
