SIBU: Forty policemen from the Motorcycle Patrol Unit (MPU) here participated in a one-day convoy programme to Belawai and Sarikei last Friday night.

Sibu District police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit was present to flag off the convoy at the Sibu police district headquarters at 7.30am.

He said the purpose of the convoy is to commemorate Malaysia Day which falls on Sept 16.

“This is the first time such an event has been held and we hope this would instil a spirit of love for Malaysia and also to establish a close relationship between police officers from the respective areas,” he said when met by reporters after the flagging off ceremony.

The convoy was joined by MPU from Sibu Central police station, Sibu Jaya police station, Lanang police station and Sungai Merah police station.

The participants were led by Sibu District police deputy chief Supt Collin Babat and head of crime prevention and community safety department DSP Ariffin Bahar.

Along the journey, the convoy will make a stop at several longhouses to rest and participate in other activities.
