SRI AMAN: The 2024 Carnival of Education and Career Roadshow attracted approximately 400 students from SMK Sri Aman, Simanggang, Melugu, and Lingga.
Bukit Begunan assemblyman Datuk Mong Dagang hoped that the youth and students will fully utilise the opportunities presented.
“The Sarawak government aspires to foster a more digital workforce to support our development agenda through the digital economy by 2030,” he said when officiating on behalf of Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Snowdan Lawan on Sunday.
The primary goal was to assist rural students in Sarawak in achieving their career aspirations through education, irrespective of their academic achievements.
The event was organised by the Tabung Ekonomi Gagasan Anak Sarawak (Tegas) and showcased 20 agencies and institutions, all providing essential information to students, youth, and educators.
He stressed the importance of education in gearing up for the digital economy, which he described as the economy of the future.
“Today, transactions can be made online via platforms such as Shopee, Lazada, and Amazon,” he said, adding, “Platforms like Grab, Panda, and S Global Pay exemplify how all transactions are moving online.”
“The digital initiatives are anticipated to transform Sarawak’s economy, contributing 20 per cent, or RM56.4 billion, to the GDP by 2030.”
He reassured that the initiative would generate 45,000 new high-income jobs and encouraged 80 per cent of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to adopt digital transactions.
