KUCHING: The highly anticipated biennial Kuching International Bike Week (KIBW) 2017 will be cruising its way on the ground and rooftop of CityOne Megamall for three-day starting from 13 until 15 October.
Some 4,000 bikers and over 30,000 mall visitors are expected to attend and enjoy the festivities which include motorcycle and accessory showcases, trade fair, talent contests and powerful performances featuring some of the best local artistes to inject some rocking fuel.
This was revealed by Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah in a press conference at Feast and Furious Cafe near here, Thursday.
He added, KIBW 2017 promises to thrill as Xcite Bike is back with world-famous stunt extraordinaire, Aaron Twite, to wow the audiences with his sublime stunt skulls plus MotoGym (Gymkhana).
Besides, Twite will also conduct a motorcycle safety clinic to groom new and skilled riders in road as well as motorcycle safety skills.
“KIBW 2017 is inviting all bikers, regardless of bike type and riding level as well as passionate bike-lovers to register and participate as a Very Important Biker (VIB) to fire things up.
“VIB participation fee is RM250 per person and includes benefits such as free VIB Parking (motorcycles only) as well as exclusive KIBW apparel and gifts.
“To add to this spectacular showcase of leather and pedals, registered VIBs will lavish at the KIBW Gala Dinner hosted at this year’s official hotel, Pullman Kuching and VIBs will have the opportunity to win a brand-new Harley Davidson at the Gala Dinner lucky draw,” he explained, adding Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud and Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg will be the guests of honour.
Apart from that, Karim disclosed that the ministry will try to get Johari to ride along with the bikers on 14 October for the City Ride.
Commenting on the building of a racing track, Karim said that so far, the discussion has not yet come to positive result.
“Building a racing track in Sarawak may not be feasible as it is costly and needs a piece of land outside the city,” he pointed out.
KIBW 2017, organised by Iron Tiger Bike Club Kuching in collaboration with Borneo Tru Events as event organiser, continues its quest to bring Kuching’s unique heritage to the world with the theme “Brotherhood Beyond Boundaries”, to foster a deeper bond within the biker community on Borneo Island, the ASEAN region and beyond.
