KUCHING: Around 4,000 visitors, including locals and foreigners, come together and celebrate the International Museum Day at Borneo Cultural Museum (BCM) here.
This year marks the second year BCM celebrated International Museum Day at the state level while this year’s national level will be celebrated in Penang.
BCM held a one-day free pass for all its visitors to attend its programmes such as Sarawak Museum Collection: Papan Turai and Museum for Education and Research: 101 archaeology.
The talk was conducted by its own curator Adrin John Hew and Seelijren Anthony to celebrate this year’s theme of Education and Research.
BCM also held activities like pottery restoration and colouring activities that can be enjoyed by their visitors, especially families with children during the morning session.
New Sarawak Tribune had the opportunity to interview one of the visitors, a Bruneian student, who is currently doing his internship at Universiti Technology MARA (UiTM).
Faris Muntil, aged 23, said this is his first week in Sarawak and sees this as a big opportunity for him to immerse in the culture and learn new things regarding the state.
“In Brunei the museum is small but here it is very cultural inspired and I hope to be able to create memories here and also didn’t miss any activity that is being held today,” he said.
In conjunction with BCM’s free one-day pass, Spanish Music Concert performance by the Trio Prommachart was also held in the museum on Saturday (May 18).
The trio combines the talents of three prominent artists comprising Canadian violinist Ming Goh, Spanish cellist Ivan Torres, and Thai piano expert Dr. Poom Prommachart.
