BINTULU: The Tanjung Kidurong Sri Pertiwi Housing Scheme here will provide 402 units of single-storey terrace houses in a 30.5 acre area, said Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) general manager Rodziah Morshidi.
She said all housing units constructed under this scheme are strictly controlled by the implementation policy set by the state government to ensure comfort, quality and selling price.
“This project consists of 366 units of Sri Pertiwi houses with a floor area of 910 square feet, three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a kitchen.
“Besides this, 36 units or 10 percent will be in the Spektra Medium category with a floor area of 755 square feet, three bedrooms, one bathroom and one kitchen,” she said at the Tanjung Kidurong Sri Pertiwi Housing Scheme earth-breaking ceremony, which Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg officiated at yesterday.
She said the estimated selling price per Sri Pertiwi housing unit was set to not exceed RM270,000 for intermediate lots and not exceeding RM295,000 for corner lots.
She added that the target group are those with a gross monthly household income of RM4,000 to RM10,000 and who do not own property in Bintulu.
Meanwhile, Rodziah said the Spektra Medium range is for those with a gross monthly household income of RM5,000 and below and who do not own property in Bintulu, as the estimated selling price is between RM135,000 and RM168,000.
“This is the first Sri Pertiwi Housing Scheme developed in Bintulu in a very strategic location, as there are social and public facilities around such as primary and secondary schools, hospital, commercial buildings, mosques, churches and recreational parks.”
She said the project is expected to be completed by early 2023.
According to her, the project would be implemented by BDA and Johabaru through the joint venture company BDA-Johabaru Realty Sdn Bhd — whereby BDA owned 55 percent and Johabaru 45 percent of the company’s ownership.
“This Sri Pertiwi Housing Scheme jointly developed by BDA and Johabaru will be a reference business venture in developing affordable public housing in Bintulu.”
She said BDA had also identified four other sites for the development of affordable housing schemes, namely in Sepadok with 1,216 units, Sg Plan (384), Kampung Jepak (580) and Jalan Bintulu-Tatau (291).
Overall, she said they planned to construct a total of 2,873 units of affordable public housing in Bintulu, which she hoped will alleviate the worries of locals on their ability to own a house in Bintulu.
“Therefore, BDA will once again play an active role in providing affordable housing as done in the 80s, 90s and early 2000s.”
She revealed that after a number of engagements and town hall series with the local community, they found that the issue of lack of affordable housing was always expressed, in addition to concerns regarding housing prices in Bintulu which were higher compared to other areas and beyond the people’s means.
“The implementation of this project will fulfil a part of the demand of locals who want their own homes and affordable housing they can afford to own in Bintulu.”
