KUCHING: Sarawak has succeeded in getting 36.6 per cent of those registered with eKasih to get out of poverty under the focus group of poverty eradication.
Minister of Welfare, Women and Community Wellbeing, Datuk Fatimah Abdullah said the figure represented 41,836 people of the 114,259 registered with eKasih in the state.
“Those who get out from the poverty category has managed to earn a monthly income of RM990 per household. This is a good achievement compared to 32.6 per cent in March last year,” said Fatimah during a press conference after chairing the focus group meeting at Wisma Bapa Malaysia, Petra Jaya here, yesterday.
Meanwhile, Fatimah also said that Sarawak is one of the contributors for the success of poverty eradication.
“This was noted by the Performance Management and Delivery Unit (PEMANDU) under their six national key result areas where one of them is low income household category.
“PEMANDU also noted that an allocation of RM5 million will be given to the state within this week to assist 725 participants under the 1Azam programme.
“The focus group is the poor and hardcore poor and the assistance are in the form of materials and equipments for the participants,” said Fatimah.
Fatimah also pointed out that 89 applications for home repair under Urban Poverty Eradication Programme have been approved.
“The first phase of the programme costing RM15,000 for each house will benefit 89 houses under eKasih,” she said.
