42 fines for SOP flouts

KUCHING: Police have issued 42 compounds to individuals in the state last Thursday for failing to comply with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) in public places.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a statement said, the police will continue to enforce the SOPs including the use of face masks and social distancing in public places.

“Bintulu recorded the most compounds issued with twenty, followed by Padawan with 10.

“Five compounds were issued in Kota Samarahan, three in Limbang, and one each in Kuching, Miri, Betong, and Sarikei,” the statement read.

On the inter-zone travel restriction in Simunjan and Sri Aman, police recorded 1,074 vehicles that had passed between zones (1 and 2) from Aug 13 to 14.

Of the total, 1,067 of them had obtained travel permission and seven were ordered to turn back due to not having a travel permission letter.

To date, 1,733 premises have been monitored throughout the state. They included restaurants (358), supermarkets (155), banks (128), places of worship (96), public markets (93), government offices (69), hawker stalls (50), leisure places (43), construction sites (23), factories (15) and others (703).

The committee also informed that 1,701 vehicles had been inspected in six Ops Benteng roadblocks in five districts, namely two in Lundu and one each in Bau, Serian, Sri Aman, as well as Lubok Antu.
