KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 432 new Covid-19 cases and three deaths today.

State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in its daily statement today (Apr 27), said the total number of cases in the state stood at 28,961 with a death toll of 165.

It said 70 percent of the 432 cases were detected in the districts of Bintulu, Bukit Mabong, Miri, Sibu and Kanowit.

“Bintulu District recorded 81 cases, Bukit Mabong (64), Miri (60), Sibu (53), Kanowit (46), Selangau (23), Mukah (23), Kuching (21), Matu (Ten), Julau (eight), Marudi (Six), Sebauh (six), Lundu (four), Sri Aman (three), Sarikei (three), Subis (three), Pakan (three), Serian (two), Lubok Antu (two), Bau (two), Meradong (two), Betong (two), Belaga (one), Tatau (one), Beluru (one), Saratok (one) and Telang Usan (one),” said SDMC.

Of the total new cases reported, 52 people showed signs and experienced symptoms of Covid-19 infection during screening.

SDMC said one of the fatalities involved a 54-year-old local man who was recently admitted to Bintulu Hospital for fever, cough, headache and chest pain.

“rT-PCR test showed positive for Covid-19 on April 9. The condition of the case deteriorated and he was confirmed dead on April 24. The case had no comorbidity,” it said.

The committee said another fatality involved a 47-year-old local woman who was admitted to Bintulu Hospital due to sore throat, fever, cough, diarrhea and difficulty in breathing.

“rT-PCR test showed positive for Covid-19 on April 11. The condition of the case was found to be deteriorating and was confirmed dead on  April 25. The case had comorbid hypertension.”

It said the third fatality was a 44-year-old local woman who was admitted to Sarikei Hospital for shortness of breath.

It added the case had recently developed symptoms of cough and loss of sense of taste.

“The Rapid Test Kit Antigen and rT-PCR test on April 20 was positive for Covid-19. The health condition of the case deteriorated and she was confirmed dead on April 25. The case had comorbidities of diabetes, high blood pressure and dyslipidemia.

“SDMC extends its condolences to all family members of the victims,” added the committee.
