KUCHING: A total of 436 individuals were arrested statewide for various drug-related offenses throughout the month of October this year.
Of these, 40 were arrested under the trafficking category, possession (130), positive urine category (266), while 12 traffickers were arrested under the Dangerous Drugs (Special Prevention Measures) Act 1985.
State Narcotics Crime Investigation Department chief Supt Hasnir Abdul Hamid said that his department is striving to combat drug trafficking and distribution in Sarawak.
As such, various proactive actions have been taken to eradicate syndicates or individuals engaged in drug trafficking activities through investigations and intelligence.
“Throughout last month, two special operations were carried out nationwide dubbed ‘Ops Waran Tangkap’ and ‘Ops Damn Tokan’.
“’Ops Waran Tangkap’ was carried by the state narcotics team from Oct 14 till 18, where 37 individuals were detected for various narcotic offenses. Meanwhile, the ‘Ops Damn Tokan’ — a one day operation on Oct 29 — resulted in the arrest of seven individuals under the trafficking category, possession category (14), positive urine category (2) while 12 traffickers under the Dangerous Drugs (Special Prevention Measures) Act 1985,” he revealed in a statement yesterday.
He noted that the success was the result of high commitment and effort by the state NCID and co-operation provided by the people here.
