KUCHING: The last temporary relief centre (PPS) for flood survivors in Serian division, have officially closed this morning.

According to the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) secretariat, the closure of Dewan Kampung Slabi Entukuh PPS was signed off by Serian District Officer Inting Nyami at 10 am.

Forty-four evacuees from nine families have been allowed to return to their respective homes following improved weather conditions and receded floodwaters.

With this, there are no longer any PPS in Kuching and Serian divisions.

However, only one PPS, namely Balai Raya Kampung Assyakirin, remains open in Bintulu since Jan 18 to accommodate 14 storm survivors from four families, whose apartments in Iris Garden-Pine Court were badly damaged in a freak storm.

Last Saturday (Mar 2), flash floods struck numerous areas in Kuching and Serian divisions, and it prompted the immediate opening of 14 relief centres to house 1,511 flood survivors.
