SIBU: A total of 450 students from three secondary schools in the Nangka constituency are involved in the STEM50 Programme, which started last June.
The three participating schools are Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Agama, SMK Kampung Nangka, and SMK Jalan Oya.
Nangka Constituency STEM Education & Professional Skills Secretariat (StemPro) chairman Abg Fairul Syarmil Abg Mohamad said the programme involves 150 Form 1, Form 2 and Form 3 students.
“It is an effort to foster interest among more students to enter the Science stream when they advance to Form 4,” he said in a statement today (July 28).
He added that the STEM50 Programme is a collaboration between the N55 Nangka Service Centre, the Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development, and Federal Ministry of Education.
“Selected students will be given the experience of participating in an intensive programme divided into three main components, namely Additional Classes, STEM Activities, and an Assessment Quiz.
“The programme will run throughout the year, with STEM activities supported by several agencies, including the Sibu Digital Innovation Hub, the Sarawak State Library, and the University of Technology Sarawak.
“These three agencies will help implement STEM activities such as using 3D printers, introducing computer programming skills, and providing access to various science and technology equipment available at UTS,” he added.
The programme was officiated by Deputy Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee.
