BINTANGOR: A total of 450 students in Meradong received their school uniform vouchers recently.
The presentation of the vouchers commenced at Dewan Sri Wawasan Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Bandar Bintangor here last Friday.
197 of them are Form One students of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Bandar Bintangor, SMK Meradong, SMK Kai Chung and SMK Tiong Hua, while the other 253 are Primary One students, comprised from 26 other schools in the Meradong district.
Meradong assemblyman, Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing said that the vouchers, channeled through Yayasan Sarawak are given to ease the financial burden of the students’ parents.
He disclosed that the recipients are Primary One and Form One students.
“They are from less privileged families of which their ‘Ketua Isi Rumah’ (KIR) are registered with the e-Kasih programme and verified as poor in their statuses.
“Every recipient receives a voucher that is worth RM200,” he said.
In his speech, Ding called upon the students’ parents to identify their children’s talents.
Ding viewed that evaluation is not necessarily targeted to academics in particular, as he stressed that skills is of equal importance as well.
“We have to be prepared to make changes in order to adapt, as time waits for no one.
“In the same context, the state government realises the change earlier on. This results in initiatives being given to ensure that Sarawakians are not left behind,” he added.
Also present were PPD Meradong education officer, Ismail Abang Mahmud and SMK Bandar Bintangor principal, Jalani Hasim.
