SIBU: A total of 4,744 recipients without bank account here this year will receive the 1Malaysia People’s Aid (BR1M) payment vouchers instead.
Second Minister of Finance, Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh said the distribution of BR1M for the sixth year showed that the Federal Government is very concerned with the welfare and wellbeing of the people in the country.
“The first BR1M payment vouchers were distributed in 2012 where Sibu district office distributed the BR1M vouchers to 30,123. While in 2013, a total of 63,050 BR1M vouchers were distributed to recipients here. In 2014, the government began distributing BR1M payment vouchers by crediting the amount to the recipients’ bank accounts with the total number of recipients without bank accounts decreasing to 12,283,” he said, adding that a total of 8,115 recipients without bank accounts received BR1M payment vouchers in 2015,” Wong said at the presentation of this year’s BR1M payment vouchers for Sibu District at Sibu Civic Centre yesterday.
According to Wong, the number of BR1M recipients without bank accounts last year decreased to 4,922.
He said the decline in the number of BR1M recipients showed that some recipients were awareness of the requirement to open a bank account so that the BR1M payment can be banked in directly to their accounts.
“For the State Government, we appreciate the Federal Government’s commitment to continue to provide BR1M for the development and wellbeing of the people,” Wong said and advised the recipients to use their money wisely.
Sibu District Officer, Awang Yusup Awang Mostapha was among those present at the event.
