LAWAS: A total of 47,532 residential lots in 353 villages had been surveyed throughout the state as at Dec 31 last year.
Under the Traditional Village Land Survey Programme, a total of 53 land titles would be issued under Section 18 of the State Land Code, said Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.
The issuance of the land titles proved that the state government recognised the people’s right to their individual lots which they had long occupied, he added when presenting land titles, temporary occupation licences (TOL) and land compensation cheques at Dewan Masyarakat Sundar here.
A traditional village is a village that has long existed either on land that has been gazetted as Bumiputera Communal Reserve or otherwise.
The surveying work will enable the people to rightfully own the land which they have long occupied, he said.
Awang Tengah said the state government had always recognise the people’s rights over their land.
“Surveying of NCR land has been implemented since the 1960’s through the Solution Operations Programme (SOP) which was later changed to the Traditional Village Land Survey programme in early 2000.
“SOP is a process of surveying and determining the people’s rights to their land to enable it to be entered in the land registry,” he added.
Awang Tengah said the new NCR land survey initiative covered the perimeters as the first stage in the process after which the surveyed area would be gazetted under Section 6 of the State Land Code.
Stage 2 and final of the process is the surveying of individual lots, the titles of which would be issued under Section 18 of the State Land Code, he said.
Awang Tengah said the Traditional Village Land Survey programme is one of the state government’s continuous efforts to ensure that villagers rightfully owned the land they have long occupied.
Also, through the surveying work, the boundaries would be made clear to prevent any dispute and encroachment by any party, he said
